Project Hubbard Kickstarter

It's hard to overstate the impact Rob Hubbard had on the UK games scene during the 80s. He was a prolific musician who turned out some incredible tunes. Seeing "Commando" at my mate's place one afternoon after school helped convince me I needed a C64. I remember going back to his house, tape recorder in hand, to record the music to listen to on repeat (especially that lovely game over tune). It sounds kind of crazy now, but I bought games purely because they featured his music - and keep in mind, games weren't cheap here in NZ. I was most certainly not alone in doing this.

So it's fantastic to see this Kickstarter celebrating the man's career. On offer are a hardback book, a studio album, previously unreleased SIDs and more. For me personally I'm looking forward to learning more about what he got up to when he upped sticks and moved to the US to work for Electronic Arts. I remember seeing his name pop up in credits every now and then, but that was about it.

The person behind the project, Chris Abbot, was recently interviewed on the Press Play on Tape podcast - well worth a listen.
